About the 2330 202 exam

As some of our students might say, "we weren't expecting that!".

The 202 seems to come from nowhere. Before the 202 is, obviously, the 201; an amalgamation of health and safety (and common sense) and technical information. Then, all of a sudden, it's *BANG* electromagnetism, power, current, voltage, Ohms law, sine waves, production of electricity, SI units...

We could go on. We won't. Suffice to say, the 202 catches a lot of students out. The 201 leads a lot of apprentices, adults and full time students into a false sense of security. It makes them think that the next one is going to be as easy. That is until they sit it. The truth is that it is actually a tough and respectable exam that covers a large syllabus and roots the student deeply in what are the fundamentals of electrical principles.

It's often said (usually by apprentices that work and talk with electricians who have forgot a lot of what they have learned) that the science does not relate to what really occurs on site. Whereas this has some elements of truth, it also has a lot of what can well be classed as useful background knowledge as to what occurs on site. For instance, what is Ohms law if not prospective fault current? What size breaker do you choose without knowing what a 8.5kW shower has the potential to draw in terms of current? What is R1+R2 if not resistors (or resistances) in series? A sine wave is meaningless, until you think about the actual generation of electricity, the turning of the turbines themselves.

Whichever way you look at it, the fundamentals of electrical principles are here to stay. They are not always easy to comprehend or absorb, but with our software, revision of the subject is made a lot easier when you are prepared for what is to come.

Enjoy the exam and let us know how you got on by emailing info@electricalquals.com we'd like to hear from you.
